There are essentially two types of pumpkin in cultivation, the edible squash and the vegetable squash.
The types and varieties of squash count, whose fruits are only harvested when ripe. The plants form more or less long tendrils and develop only a few per plant, but very large and heavy fruits. Vegetable pumpkins are all types and varieties, whose cucumber-shaped fruits are already used at a very young stage. They are characterized by a bushy growth without significant tendrils. The vegetable pumpkin in particular deserves more attention due to its special taste and tender flesh.
