Please do not misunderstand these statements. It's not like that, that in reality we are all stress-free and happy, if this word didn't exist - modern life is perceived by many people as stressful, and one should certainly not make and say the misinterpretation, that only overemphasis on stress actually causes it.
stress is there, and when it exceeds a certain level, it is neither agreeable nor healthy. What should not be forgotten, however, is the fact, that not every momentary feeling of stress can really be traced back to a particularly demanding and fast-paced phase of life.
Rather, it is very typical of the phenomenon of stress, that it can appear very suddenly and often disappear again quickly – but not always.
Pay attention to your subjective feelings on a stressful day. You get up early, do a variety of jobs, take a short break and get back to work. In the evening they are exhausted and tired and want “nothing but their rest”. If they get enough of them, the stress is probably already forgotten by the next morning, and they stay productive and active.
Then it becomes difficult, when the phases of relaxation become too short, either by real or misunderstood requirements.
When they feel stress, because there are so many responsibilities besides their work, that still have to be done, unfortunately only one thing helps: tackle. Even if you are unmotivated and feel overwhelmed - if you never start, you never get done, and ends up having more stress, without having accomplished anything.
However, lack of relaxation is not always due to too many small tasks, that we have not fulfilled. It can very well be based on real excessive demands, because we really don't have the capacity, all works, that would accrue to us, to do in a reasonable time. The phases of relaxation are usually shorter in such a case, above all, they become less intense. In the end, in extreme cases, we spend a lot of time on it, nothing to do, until the work just seems more and more terrifying.
In the context of stress, we should speak less about the phenomenon of stress itself and more about the stress balance of a person. When tension and relaxation alternate in appropriate cycles, we will not really feel unhealthy and uncomfortable stress. This is usually the case first, when the alternation between these phases is no longer appropriate, but when there is more stress, than can be compensated for by relaxation.
This condition can be real, but also caused by perceived excessive demands - it doesn't matter for the body, whether he's feeling overwhelmed by pending and uncompleted tasks, or by the inevitable.
However, it is not just the balance between tension and relaxation that is important in connection with personal stress management. It may well be, that a person actually has enough time, to relax, and that he is still heavily burdened by the daily challenges of his everyday life and is therefore under stress.
If you look at the stress balance of a person, one must not forget the personal factor: How does a person deal with a stressful situation?
Some people remain very calm even in extreme situations, are sober and relaxed and don't seem to be bothered by the situation at all.
In part, this is certainly due to mental stability, coupled with self-control and a dash of acting, attributed - but it is a fact, that there are people, who are really calm, while others almost panic.
These individual differences are closely linked to a person's mentality.
In extreme situations, a certain feeling quickly arises in a person - typically "I'll manage it" or "It's bound to go wrong".. Indeed, these two extreme statements are of the greatest importance in this context, because the consciousness of a person wants to make a decision quickly - you will hardly meet people, who are neither challenged nor intimidated by an emotionally intense situation.
The assessment of a situation therefore plays an important role for people. Do you usually see a critical situation in your everyday life as a challenge or a threat?
Challenges usually generate productive and positive stress, during threats, a sense of inability, generate excessive demands and thus negative stress.
