Any good garden soil is suitable for growing chicory, as long as it is deeply and sufficiently supplied with humus.

Too light or too heavy soil can be made usable by adding compost or peat. Chicory does not tolerate fresh manure, it therefore belongs in the 2nd costume. There is a medium requirement of the three main nutrients phosphorus, potash and nitrogen. There are no special requirements for the fertilizer form. In addition to the initial nitrogen fertilization of 5g N/m2, a top fertilization of the same amount shortly before the stand closes is sufficient.

Deep loosening of the soil is particularly important, since chicory develops a long taproot. Cultivation is possible after all types of vegetables, who clear the area by the beginning of June.
