Potted young plants grow faster and produce earlier harvests.
At least pricked out plants are required for early vegetable cultivation, but even better to use plants with root balls. They continue to grow immediately after planting without stagnation and at least reach harvest maturity 8 to 10 days sooner than seedbed plants (z.B. Lettuce). Fruit vegetables such as tomatoes, Peppers or eggplants should only be grown in pots. Specialist shops offer various types of pots for growing young plants. Clay pots and pressed peat pots are particularly suitable. Plastic pots are not recommended. At the very least, the plants in these pots should not be overwatered and planted immediately, as soon as the earth is somewhat rooted. Soil pots are also very suitable for growing lettuce and cabbage. Utensils required to make soil pots are 6 to 8 cm long pieces of pipe with different diameters from 5 up to 9 cm made of suitable material (with. B. PVC), a wooden disk with a handle for pressing the soil and a device for ejecting the planted soil ball.
