The wild forms of today's indoor plants were brought together by plant collectors from all parts of the world. They therefore often come from quite different climates- and soil conditions, to which they are adapted in shape and way of life. Their species-specific course of development is shaped by the peculiarities of their home location. Therefore we should offer the foreign plants in our rooms almost the same living conditions as in their natural environment. Then they will also keep their characteristic growth and a perfect beauty of flowers and foliage. We must therefore know the specifics of their requirements, which often vary greatly from species to species.
However, many of our indoor plants have adapted to the changed conditions in the course of horticultural culture and breeding influence, that we are able to offer you in your living space or at work, adjusted so far, that they are developing well.
Many years of observation and experience have fathomed, which general rules and aspects to consider when caring for our indoor plants. When we know the factors, which in their interaction influence the vital activity of the plants, it shouldn't be too difficult, to guide the development of the leafy and flowering plants kept in the room from case to case. Taking into account the respective spatial conditions, the right place for a specific plant or the right plant for a specific place can then be determined from the large number of plant species with different environmental requirements. The aesthetic demands of our modern living culture and interior design must be reconciled with the biological spatial conditions as well as possible.
