Diseased plant waste does not belong in the compost heap.
The causative agents of plant diseases remain alive even after the plant waste containing them has rotted. With the finished compost they come back to the vegetable land and infect the plants again. Therefore, all diseased plant remains are burned. Burning is the only guarantee, that the pathogens are destroyed. Burning is particularly important for cabbage stalks, those of clubroot (tuberous, slimy root outgrowths) are affected. Also tomato herb, which has suffered from leaf rot, must not end up on the compost heap. Where burning is not possible, diseased plant parts are buried deep in a pit.
