A large number of animal pests can be controlled by protecting their natural enemies and eliminating their host plants.

Ladybugs and hoverflies are well-known aphid enemies, and parasitic wasps kill numerous caterpillars of insect pests, by laying their eggs in it and the larvae that hatch from them feed on the caterpillars. Birds are also indispensable helpers in the garden. Therefore, special attention should be paid to bird protection, u.a. by providing suitable nesting sites. However, these need special protection from cats and other bird predators.
