Create deep paths between the beds, that the plants at the border of the beds receive too little water.
The paths are only stepped on and not shoveled out. Before dividing the land into beds in the spring, you mark the edges of the path with short poles. Then you stretch a cord and walk foot to foot (with the toes to the string) the way. In this way, the bottom of the path only gets slightly under the bed surface, so that the edges of the bed dry out hardly faster than the middle of the bed in summer.
