A garden string or a row puller is used to mark the planting sites or sowing rows.

The vegetable patches are divided in this way for planting or sowing, that the edge rows are about half a row distance from the bed edge. With a row spacing of 20cm there is a normal bed 6 Rows. The edge rows are therefore 10cm away from the bed edge. All rows are marked by pulling a strong piece of string back and forth. Becomes a row-puller (as adjustable as possible) used, then all rows of beds can be marked at once. You can also pull the rows with the rake handle, which is led along a taut cord. That is recommended, if the seed is only supposed to get very flat into the ground.
