With a wafer-thin metal coating, you can conjure up pieces of jewelery with an antique touch from simple wooden chandeliers or mirror frames.

Do not be fooled! The sparkling candlesticks are not real gold and silver, but – much cheaper than their noble relatives – turned from wood and stamped with gold- and silver optics. The gold-plated and silver-plated candle holders are made light and are well suited as a festive table decoration. If you are working in topping without the accuracy of a professional, is not a disadvantage, because the basic color of the wood should shimmer through small cracks in the metal. That and the brown patina create the antique look. The chandeliers are available by mail order or at the flea market. Sand colored candle holders before painting over, prime raw wood.
The materials such as acrylic paint (rot, turquoise or black), Dispersion paint (White), attachment milk, about five sheets of brass per candlestick (for example composition gold or silver from Eckart – address page 70), a tube of oil paint (umbra), Terpentinersatz, Schutzlack (Zaponlack), Color brushes and a thick hair brush are available in creative markets.
And that's how it's done: Prime the chandelier with dispersion paint, let dry. apply varnish – red for gold metal, turquoise or black for silver -, let it dry for a day. Carefully apply the application milk and let it dry as prescribed. Remove the decorative metal from the backing paper with a wide knife and place it on the hair brush. Starting at the bottom, place immediately on the candlestick and press lightly with the brush. Be careful, that the base color shines through in some places. Small wrinkles do not bother.
Mix up the patina using a pea-sized piece of oil paint and a teaspoon of turpentine. Paint over the gold-plated or silver-plated surfaces with a brush. Then wipe lightly with a cloth, let dry. Then paint the chandelier with zapon varnish, so that the metal does not oxidize.
