Movable walls – A screen introduces itself

This three-winged partition wall for replicating is a privacy screen and an eye-catcher at the same time.
A model – two variations: Once completely natural from wood and alternatively covered with blue foil.

Anyone who wants to make two rooms out of one, to set up a separate workplace, for example, can shield themselves discreetly with a screen. Even if the construction looks a little complicated, it is relatively easy to replicate. Provided, They work precisely and stick to the measurements.

It is best to have the three plywood wing panels cut to size at a hardware store. The beech wood frames are available from specialist retailers. Aluminum double tubes ensure the flexible connection of the elements (Alfer Aluminium) with pivots made of dowel rods. These are pushed into the aluminum tubes and connected to the coupling pieces and hinge profiles. Dowel rods are sold by the metre, that's why two of them become an axis by means of a coupling piece. So you need twelve pieces, you on 75 cm length shorten. On the protruding ends of the axles ( is 5 cm) become foot- and headboards glued from round wood. The total cost of the movable wall: round 135 Euro.

1 The beech wood strips, all in all 30 piece, cut at right angles with the miter saw 48,8 cm length.

2 They are then glued in pairs on both sides of the plywood panels using wood glue. The frame timbers are flush with the short side of the panel at the top and bottom, their distance from each other is respectively 29,1 cm. Fix glued parts with clamps.

3 After gluing, all wooden parts are surface-treated twice with acrylic clear varnish. Intermediate sanding is done with 180 grade sandpaper.

4 With an epoxy glue (Uhu Endfest 300) are now the hinge profiles, 24 piece, glued between the doublings.

5 This two-component adhesive does not need to be applied with pressure, needs to harden completely, depending on the temperature, up to twelve hours.

6 Around the pipe profiles (8 Piece a 29,3 cm length) to cut, you need a hacksaw. A cutting box with a screw lock is helpful here.

7 The head- and foot parts (12 Piece a 10 cm) as well as the coupling pieces (6 Piece a 4,3 cm) for the axes are made from a round bar of 2,8 cm 0 tailored.

8 Then drill holes from 1,6 cm 0 Mistake. The end pieces of the axles have blind holes on one side 5 cm depth, the coupling pieces are drilled through. The use of a drill stand with a machine vice is mandatory, to exactly and – above all – to work safely.

9 Glue the foot parts to the axle ends.

10 During assembly, the axle halves are glued into the center of the couplings.
