Maintenance work begins immediately after the French beans emerge

Maintenance work begins immediately after the French beans emerge.

First of all, the necessary ventilation of the soil is provided by hoeing. This must be done especially after rain, since beans are sensitive to soil crusting. The soil is only superficially loosened, because bush beans have relatively shallow roots. Once the plants have reached a height of about 15cm, is easily piled up. Shortly before the stand is closed, you pile up a second time, but stronger this time. This gives the plants better stability. Under normal weather conditions, the beans receive plenty of water just before flowering and while the pods are developing.
In addition, supplemental irrigation is only required during severe dry periods.
