„Moin, Hello to Hamburg! question: How do I prevent drill holes in veneered wood or plywood from splintering?? I could not get a satisfactory answer from the trade. I hope, that you can offer me a solution."
Can we, and a very simple one at that: Clamp a piece of wood over and under the workpiece- or leftover disc (Experts call this an allowance.). With this you press the veneer like this, that it cannot migrate when drilling. Second requirement for a successful drilling is – of course - a sharp wood drill with a center point.
With the second option, you can do without the upper additional wood, but need one (more expensive) Forstner- or an artificial drill.
Both are equipped with side cutters, the – Assuming sharpness – prevent surface tearing.
