Inexpensive, very simple and looks really great!

The warm wood tone, fine trims, profiled consoles and the beautiful fittings: This piece of furniture has the right charisma. And it's very easy to replicate!

It was still part of the furniture for our grandparents, that you couldn't do without: the Vertiko was simply in fashion! Precisely because it has been somewhat forgotten today, worth it, to recall the virtues of this piece of furniture. For example, it doesn't spread as wide as a real linen closet. It can be seen in probably all living rooms. And it forms an attractive contrast in the environment of today's rather sober furniture.

But our Vertiko has another very special advantage: It's constructed that way, that even less experienced hobby carpenters can experience success when rebuilding! If you look at the 19 mm thick limba-veneered chipboard according to the dimensions of our parts list (next page) have it cut to size by the timber dealer, get by with relatively few power tools: einer

drilling machine, a drill driver and a one-handed angle grinder with milling attachment for flat dowels. If you are not familiar with working with flat dowels or if you do not have the right tool for it, you can of course also use the traditional connection technique with round wooden dowels instead. However, you will then need an appropriate drilling jig and a couple of dowel markers. This will allow you to create the blind holes for the wooden dowels exactly and without much effort.

The most important hand tool, which should be available to you for building the vertiko, is a precision miter saw. Because all profile strips, which are used as edge bands on the shelves and decorative frames on the doors and cabinet sides, must be mitered together exactly.

When you have cut the chipboard to fit the Vertiko, you should first apply edging strips to the cut edges that will be visible later and then glue and pin the profile strips. If you pre-drill the strips to the nail diameter, don't run the risk, that the wood cracks. The nail heads are countersunk and filled with wood putty. All over, where you can tighten the strips with clamps, refrain from making donations.

The photos on the right show you all the work, that occur when rebuilding the vertiko: You can literally see the furniture growing! But even if everything appears complete in the last picture, this is just a test build. Because as long as the panels and strips are still raw, errors can be corrected. Isn't that necessary?, disassemble the furniture again, as required for pickling the surfaces. This is the only way to get to the last corner. When the stain is dry and the furniture is glued, everything is sealed with antique wax.
