Secure, a solid oak shelf would cost a small fortune, but who makes the floors out of pine wood, stained on oak and then fitted with a solid oak strip, gets a shelf, which looks deceptively real like solid oak. The cost per shelf is approx 28 Euro for glued pine wood and strips and additional 22 euros for the oak strip (29 x 48 mm from the wood store). An oak board would cost about twice as much!

But there is a trick: You take glued wood boards made of pine or spruce for the surfaces and provide them with a solid hardwood edge band. We decided on oak wood and the softwood boards now have to be matched to the oak wood color with a stain. But before the stain is applied, the coniferous wood must be watered. When watered, wood fibers soak up water and rise from the surface, which is then sanded smooth again. Otherwise the fibers would soak up the stain and give off a rough surface, which would be difficult to grind.
