Plant and care for bottles – Great climate in the glass garden

How warm or cool, it is damp or dry in the bottle garden, you decide. With mini plants and self-made tools, gardening is a real pleasure here.

A bottle garden really only requires some work once: at the start, when it is put on. later, when it is locked, creates a closed cycle of plants, Earth, Moisture and light. The plants absorb water from the soil and evaporate it; the moisture condenses on the cool glass walls and trickles into the floor. Glass balloons are ideal for the bottle garden, which are closed with corks. You get them in flowers- and wine shops, at the flea market or in An- and sales. Simple devices help with planting and later work between the plants: For grasping the plants, Fork and spoon are used to dig and loosen the soil, which are attached to bamboo sticks with wire, With the screw hook on the rod, plants can be pulled out of the ground, the floor is smoothed and pressed down with a spool of thread attached to the rod. With the (pre-purchased) Sprayers provide the plants with water and nutrients. Only lime-free water may be used, because otherwise there will be lime stains on the glass.

For larger plants or such, that grow quickly, open vessels are more suitable. The soil filling is the same as in the bottle garden. However, you have to pour more often here, because there is no cycle. However, there is a higher level of humidity in bulbous vessels than in the room.
Only plants with comparable requirements for light and moisture may be planted together. For example, ferns that remain small are suitable, various thick-leaf plants or cacti.

1 Clay granules are poured in through a funnel made of sturdy paper as drainage and soil.

2 The soil is distributed with the spoon and provided with planting holes.

3 Before planting, the plants should be watered. The pad must be firm and well rooted.

4 The plant is easy to hold and use between a spoon and a fork.

5 Finally, the soil is pressed all around with the spool of thread. Then it is poured carefully. The water should run down the walls, so that the earth does not splash against the glass walls. Check the amount of water in the jar for a week or two, and if necessary let something evaporate or pour in a little.
