Optimal use of every niche!

They are just everywhere, in the bathroom, in the kitchen, behind doors, under stairs: Niches and corners, which remain completely unused. But why actually?
With a few ideas and technical initiative, even inexperienced do-it-yourselfers can find great solutions. Twelve suggestions, how to get more out of your home.

Staircase shelf

The room under the basement stairs: an ideal place for a couple ! Custom-made mobile shelves for small items or supplies. Use furniture connectors to attach the panel on both sides to the top and bottom. Screw the remaining trolley parts tight. Simple box rolls, screwed under the sub-floors, be enough, around the approximately 40 cm wide trolleys mobile. The slope of the stair stringer determines the shape for the top of the trolley cover, which should be a little wider than the trolley. The building material: coated chipboard, 19 mm.

Stowage platform

Connect the platform plate and studs with flat dowels and glue. Glued-on strips give the drawers more guidance.
You can screw the cover in from behind 19 mm glued wood with the plastic boxes. Saw out the finger holes beforehand. Practical plastic boxes, Furnished with furniture castors at the corners (Ikea), form the basis for this platform solution in the bedroom. It was matched to the side height of the bed and can be adjusted in width & adapt to the room. In this way you create storage space and storage space at the same time.

Book carousel

Our book carousel is a very special solution. And that in two ways: The structure with round bottoms is something for clever do-it-yourselfers, and it offers a lot of space, where there is little else that can be accommodated: in a corner of the room.
Choose the type of wood and height to match your furniture. First you connect the upright parts of the carousel, then screw in the shelves for the books in between. Then the triangles follow, which are only glued in. The back walls of the tower bracket, screwed to the base plate, are dowelled to the wall. Then you put the tower on the base plate and screw the cover with the axis onto the plates of the bracket.

We cut the upright parts of the book carousel from veneered chipboard, the front edges each to an angle of 65 Beveled degree. The table saw is set to a cutting angle of 25 Degree set. Provide edge strips on all edges. A corner of the room between two cupboards offers space for this practical book carousel. It can be easily rotated around its axis, thus providing access to all of the books stored in it, CDs or cassettes possible.

Gastergarderobe

What to do, when suddenly a lot more coats and jackets have to be stored, than can grasp the existing hooks? If you set up your wardrobe like this, as we show you here, you are prepared for any eventuality, without your guest cloakroom taking up space. On the contrary, the solution with the mirror surface, which at the same time hides the “garage” for a pull-out cloakroom rod and can be attached to any sufficiently wide protrusion, also has an appealing design. The thick round bar on the right is firmly connected to the lower frame.

Corner shelf

A bird's eye view (see diagram) makes you familiar with the room situation. A narrow hallway, a built-in wardrobe with sliding doors – and a corner of the room, in which a tall mirror is attached to the wall.
With a separate corner shelf, that we have fitted at cabinet height, the side wall of the cupboard appears much more pleasing, without restricting the freedom of movement in this entrance. The space on the floors is enough for a few small things - and the space between the cabinet and the wall is given a cover plate with built-in spotlights, which illuminate the space in front of the mirror.

Hanging table

A folding table is ideal furniture, if you want a place for your hobby or a quick breakfast in a confined space. The big one, It should not and cannot replace a stable dining table. But technically clean and made of a noble wood, a folding table can also turn into a neat piece of furniture. A good example of this is our solid table made from leftover ash glued wood. Smaller than here (see the dimensions on the sketch) a table top should not fail, so that the benefits are not limited too much.

Window seat

In case you only have to switch to the pencil artist camp occasionally, a Post, Take care of account management or tax matters, then a writing desk like this will be welcome. You don't need much more than a sufficiently large coated chipboard, two wall brackets, a 30 mm thick round rod of niche width and two table legs as supports.
However, you need to be careful, Leave enough space for air to circulate through the radiator. First determine the pivot point of the axis!

Door panels

There are often connecting doors from room to room, especially in apartments in old buildings, the more disturbing, than they are useful. The motto is then to shut down – and you can gain some storage space right away. Follow the example on the left, an entire wardrobe can be hidden behind the closed intermediate door. He's in the next room, however shows this his (beautifully made!) move. The cabinet doors are removed, because the intermediate door closes the cupboard.
Another possibility: You close the passage on one side of the room with a plate. The door is hung up, kept in memory – and the space in the door jamb is used for a few book shelves.

Wardrobe lift

More space for jackets, All of them want shirts or blouses, whose clothes rail does not want to be sufficient for the existing wardrobe. The solution to the problem could be the “Servetto” cloakroom lift, with which you can accommodate an additional clothes rail at the otherwise inaccessible height of a linen cupboard. The lift bars and the hanging cloakroom can be effortlessly raised with the help of the built-in oleodynamic lifting devices- or move down.

Cabinet attachment

Where otherwise only dust collects, namely on the kitchen wall units, there is often still a lot of space for things, which you don't have to pick up every day, but which are hardly missing in any household: Decorative items for traditional festivals such as Easter or Christmas, for example, cake- and baking molds, Flower pots etc. With little effort, you can leave these things behind a frame with folding doors (Adjust to the width of the wall unit) disappear, until you need them again.
The screw-on hinges (Easy-On, Häfele) are provided with a spring, which do not let the opened flaps slam shut. Those who are very safety-conscious also mount a flap support.
Made of chipboard, coated like the kitchen decor, strips and door flaps are cut to the dimensions of your wall units. Edging is provided on the edges, Screw the frame parts tightly.

Luggage racks,

Storage space for seasonal items such as a tent, Air mattresses, The residents of old buildings with long corridors can win sleeping bags or ski boots. The door frames serve as supports for several luggage racks, which span the width of the corridor and are accessible via flaps. The back panels can be screwed tightly, There is even space for recessed lights in a false floor. And where there is no door opposite, a dummy door made of slats and plywood helps.

Niche cabinet

Make more of an existing niche with an idea and a little skill, it's not difficult at all. Just follow our suggestion. The drawing on the right shows, what matters: the use of the full depth of space.

We used the rear part of the niche for two built-in shelves, on which a lot can be accommodated. Fixed panels and narrow sliding doors make this storage space almost invisible. With about 50 cm distance, there are two brackets for a cloakroom rod on the walls, the space is therefore used twice – you could say: optimal.
We have given this deep niche a double function. Rear, delimited with sliding doors, there is storage space with shelves. And in front of it there is room for a guest cloakroom.
In two perforated rails each, dowelled to the wall, grab the carrier of the shelving system. The screen and floors have veneers.
Simple, but proven: the sliding door fittings for cabinet doors (Robby). Dowel the rail to the ceiling, hang in the rollers.
