What would Advent and Christmas be without a greeting from the Ore Mountains? Pyramids with a turntable, slowly set in motion by the impeller and candle heat, are a tradition in many families, also a crib, in which the Holy Night of Bethlehem is modeled with wooden figures. If you don't already have such a tradition: Just start now! Our suggestion for building a Christmas crib carousel is ideal for this, it connects both motives with each other: the nativity scene and the traditional impeller with the turntable. And it goes without saying, that we have equipped the whole thing with original wooden figures from the Ore Mountains. If you follow our design when building the crib carousel, creates a solid structure, that may be passed on from generation to generation in the future. We have again prepared a construction plan, how to order it, stands on side. If you prefer to build a real Advent classic, for example a pyramid or “just” the crib, then you will surely find what you are looking for in the four other blueprints, that we offer you on this page. And one more service: You can even save yourself the search for the right wood. The building material and various accessories, e.g. B. for the turning mechanism you can also have it sent to you by post.
Works well: Ballpoint pen refill as central axis
The structure with the floor slab, the crib room and the attic, in addition, the base and the turntable are made of birch plywood in thicknesses 3, 6,5 and 8 mm. For tray- and stud frame as well as roof battens you need square battens of 10×10 mm. For boarding the gables- and the side panels serve strips of 10×3 mm, the measurement applies to the ridge strips 17 x 2,5 mm, for the front boards 17,5 x 2 mm.
A block of solid wood makes the chimney – our suggestion: Take leftover materials from your supply, which is close to the dimensions given in the drawing. On top of that comes a wooden chimney cap and a piece on top (if possible transparent) plastic. The hole in the middle ensures stable guidance of the axle. The axle, in turn, is made up of round wood (0 between 15 and 18 mm) in the lower and silver steel for the visible part. So that the axle can rotate in the glass bearing with the least possible frictional resistance, either drill the axle in the middle, to glue a ball, or instead you stick the used refill of a ballpoint pen into the round wood from below, so that the writing tip forms the pivot point.
You will also need birch plywood for the impeller, plus dowel rods (∅ 5 mm) and the turned head with twelve bores.
Not complex, but it is quite tedious, to fabricate the roof shingles, because in the measure we have chosen (20 x 32 mm) you need for the large roof area and for the canopy together 300 piece. However, you can also take a shortcut, save yourself a little effort and order the shingles from a specialist (address below). The same applies to the other accessories shown in the small photo below on the right.
Incidentally, the components, which are mainly made of birch plywood, can be easily sawed and processed with small power tools. How big the product range is now, you can see our overview on the pages 48 to 50 remove. If you have concerns about the candles, because there are small children in the house, we suggest, to build the nativity carousel unchanged and to use a micro geared motor instead of the glass bearing, which you can get in electronics stores.
