A top-class washbasin does not have to be unaffordable. With little effort and inexpensive materials from the hardware store, everyone can have this washing fun.
Platz – you want a lot of space in the bathroom around the sink. Not only, to be able to move, but also, to do all the necessary washing- and care utensils within easy reach. This is often not possible with conventional washbasins. Unless, you buy a simple built-in basin (Sanitop) and builds the luxury washbasin himself. Ideally, it is housed in a niche, which are included in the plans for new buildings and where there is no niche, easy to build. A lightweight wall made of metal posts and plasterboard for damp rooms can be erected in one day (7 x 60 x 250 cm about 50 Euro).
The vanity should at least 120 cm wide and 60 be cm deep. But he can, depending on the size of the sink and your bathroom, be quite wider. What you spend on sink and faucet, depends on your ideas. All the material for the table costs only about 40 Euro.
With a trick, the table grows to its remarkable strength of around 7 cm. The table top consists of one 16 mm thick MDF board, which is doubled at the edges with MDF strips. This makes the front edge appear bulky as desired, and at the same time the relatively thin plate is elegantly prevented from sagging.
The rear plate edge does not have to be doubled, since they are on a wall bar (Dachlatte) rests. Small angles on the side keep the table horizontal. Make sure you use the right dowel for your walls, so that the table does not move later.
1 First draw the outline of the upside down sink on the underside of the plate. After reducing the section by at least 1 cm (Edge pad for the washbasin) cut out the cutout.
2 Approximately 6 cm wide MDF strips are now glued under the board edge with waterproof wood glue. Three stripes on the front (16 mm dick) two stripes on the side.
3 Is the glue dry?, the edges are sanded with 120 grit sandpaper. Then paint the washbasin on all sides with a deep blocking primer.
4 The side brackets and the wall strip are aligned horizontally at a height using dowels ‘ (for example Fischer Universaldübel UX) screwed to the wall.
mosaic tiles: small format – great effect
Over 1000 mosaic tiles, that make the table appear larger. But processing is not a problem, because mosaic tiles are usually made in approx 30 x 30 cm large mats sold. So you can round 200 Glue tiles at once. So that all joints are the same size, Inexperienced do-it-yourselfers should lay tile crosses between the mats. Glue and grout the tiles with flexible adhesive and flexible joint compound. Then you don't have to worry about stress cracks later.
1 Apply the flexible adhesive in sections and stick the mosaic mats to the table surface with the backing paper facing upwards. The tiles are adjusted at the cut-out with the snapping pliers. It is easier to work with a mini drill and sanding cylinder (for example Dremel Multipro, from about 80 Euro).
2 Once the glue is set, you can wet the paper and then easily peel it off the tiles.
3 Use a rubber squeegee to apply grout, mixed with a plastic dispersion (for example Ceresit-Fugenbunt with Fugen-flex) wiped in the feet.
4 Now the table on the wall strip and angles, mount the faucet on the basin and insert the basin.
5 The joint between the sink and the table is finally sealed with sanitary silicone.
