Colorless varnishes are particularly suitable for the finishing of wooden surfaces. There are four different types, depending on the material. Paints are coating materials based on organic binders, which form a tough film. Clear lacquer, that have no pigments, are transparent organic film formers, which, depending on their composition, are crystal clear or have a slightly yellowish color. These binders used to be natural oils and resins. Today paint binders are mostly produced fully synthetically or made from natural products through chemical conversion. Natural resin varnishes and oils are mainly obtained from tree resins, with. B. made of amber, rosin, Dammar or Kopal. The vitreous resins are dissolved in organic solvents or they are melted out. Organic solvents are turpentine balsam oil or alcohol.

Natural ingredients
Paints and oils penetrate deep into wood. They keep it healthy and elastic and don't let it dry out. The wood can breathe, Moisture can escape. Swelling and shrinkage are reduced. Many of the natural paints do not contain any biocidal agents. This means that the paintwork is harmless.

Clear lacquer for interior painting
The more types of wood, the more colors and structures there are. Their magic is preserved and enhanced with varnishes. The structure or. the typical character and, above all, the beauty of wooden surfaces only come into their own after a surface treatment appropriate for the material. In addition to emphasizing the wood structure, varnishes protect the wood from soiling, wear, Moisture and biological influences. The maintenance of wooden surfaces should also be made easier. Due to the lack of pigmentation, clear lacquers cannot protect wood from UV light radiation.

Clear lacquers can mainly be used in interior construction, z.B. in furniture, inner doors, Panels on walls and ceilings and also for floors and stairs.
The wood of the stairs and the floor (Fig. top left) comes into its own with paint. In both cases, a water-based acrylic varnish was used (Parkettlack) worked. This lacquer is characterized by its particular hardness and abrasion resistance. It has little odor and is particularly suitable for living areas. Furniture can be freshened up and renovated with alkyd resin glaze (Fig. top center), But the synthetic resin varnish is also suitable for first-time coats.

Surface treatments, based on nitrocellulose, require a special painting technique (Fig. top right). The wood surface is prepared with a nitro barrier primer, finely ground, then painted again and finally finished with a ball matting. This matting is applied with a ball of a tricot strip next to the strip in the direction of the wood grain.

Tea soup, which was actually developed for the maintenance of solid teak furniture, is also suitable for initial treatment (Fig. bottom left). The oil revitalizes the grain and gives the surface a protective, silky shine. It is rubbed into the wood with a linen cloth. A clear glaze is suitable for finishing profiled wood walls (Fig. bottom middle). This glaze is based on natural oil and has open pores. It's very durable. Clear lacquers are not only suitable for sealing and refining wooden surfaces. Also metallic objects, with. B. Fittings on furniture, can with nitrozapon varnish (Fig. bottom right) be treated. It protects polished brass handles, Bronze and copper, prevents tarnishing and increases the shine.

Antique shades – Old paintwork on old furniture often has a special color thanks to the natural resins used, that looks, as if the furniture had been coated with honey.
