Install fixed roof stairs 2Installation made easy
While push-in stairs are usually built in this way, that they end in the middle of the hall, if possible, fixed stairs should lead up one wall. Mini-storey stairs are available to buy as a complete kit. They can be installed straight or twisted. The kit includes all accessories and the prescribed railing. Installation is not a problem for skilled silk makers, illustrated here using the example of a central spar assembly staircase. The smallest ceiling opening for a staircase of this type is 190 x 70 cm. The distance between the ceiling joists is not sufficient for this, a bar change must be drawn in. That means, that an intervention in the statics of the house must be made – a job, which is only a specialist company (Carpentry or construction business) may perform.

Individual kits
Since hardly any installation situation is the same as another, the kits are put together individually. The best thing to do is to make an accurate, true-to-scale drawing of the local conditions and then seek advice from your specialist dealer. You can also use the stair manufacturer's measurement service. Field staff record the dimensions on site. The number of steps and the step height result from the floor height, that of the upper edge of the finished floor (OKFF) of the residential floor to the OKFF of the top floor is measured. The step width is in the example shown here 62 cm, the step depth 17 cm. Five different types of wood are available, the surface of which can be supplied completely sealed or unprocessed. A balustrade can also be supplied to match the banister, that secures the staircase opening in the attic.

Stairs for tight spaces
In particularly tight spaces, stairs can be fitted with space-saving, Steps cut out on one side can be installed. They can be steeper than stairs with normal steps, but prescribe the right / left step sequence when entering. Space-saving spiral stairs are also well suited as floor access in some cases.

Check the distance between the steps carefully. Do they differ from each other, loosen ties and news. Mark the positions of the bottom holes, twist the element, drill, Insert dowels and screw the plate on. Lay out the steps, fix, Pre-drill and secure with wrench screws. Align precisely using a guideline. Mark the drilling points for the balusters and pre-drill the holes in the surface and in the narrow step edge. The special screws have a head with a hexagon socket. Align the railing supports and screw them on. The handrail is attached to the supports with special tabs. Screw the tabs onto the supports from above. Place the handrail on top and screw it with the tabs from below. Align the supports parallel to each other. The parapet railing connects to the stair railing. The attachment: Threaded sleeves and hanger bolts.
