A solid paved surface, which is criss-crossed by veins of grass and on which no puddles form – this is the ideal parking space.
More and more paths and squares are being paved, concreted or paved. This doesn't just apply to public, but also for private areas too. This means that natural greening is excluded, and large amounts of rainwater, that occur during a downpour or as snowmelt, can no longer seep into the ground quickly. The result is puddling and muddy surfaces. This can be remedied by special paving or a special type of laying conventional paving made of natural stone or concrete.

Special plaster
Paving stones are usually waterproof and only allow water to seep through the joints between the stones or slabs. But the joint sand also thickens so much over time, that water can hardly seep through. Drainage paving stones behave differently (Vanoton). These stones made of special concrete are water- and air permeable. They are frost-proof and come in different colors and shapes, available as smooth stone or as composite paving. As with normal concrete blocks, they are laid on a bed of sand.

Fünfeck-Betonpflaster
For whom the parallel joints in conventional paved surfaces are too boring, can become pentagonal stones (Pentalith) to grab. Irregular joint patterns arise during installation, which loosen up particularly large areas. An asymmetrically shaped normal stem can be laid in a wild association. So that the lateral boundaries of paved surfaces can form a straight end, there are four different curbs, which fit into the gaps that arise. Molded spacers always ensure that the gaps are of the same width. The stones are laid on a bed of sand on an effective drainage layer. The joints are down with sand, then filled with topsoil.

Spacers made of wood
By installing spacers, all natural- and lay concrete paving stones with wide joints. The holder shown here (Lawn Mohr) consist of pressed wood chips. The material is environmentally friendly and stores water like a small reservoir. Through the large-format holes, large amounts of water can also easily seep away and run off in the drainage layer. The spacers create one 35 mm wide joint and thus enable strong roots and strong lawn growth. Due to the slow rotting of the wood-based material, plant food is also formed. In the lower area, these joints are also filled with sand. The layer of soil above should be approx. 3 cm thick.

Open spacers
Like wooden interlayers, plastic spacers are also used (Sad): They grip around the corners of the stones and have a support on the side of the adjacent stone. This creates staggered rows of stones, what loosens up the area. The spacers are suitable for laying square as well as other rectangular stones.
The joints are filled with sand and topsoil, whereupon grass seeds can be applied. If you don't want grass growth in the joints everywhere, the corresponding joints are filled with coarse sand or gravel.
