Planting time for strawberries

If the harvest in your strawberry bed this year turned out to be meager, is in August the right time, to plant new plants. Most strawberry varieties only bear really well for two to three years and should then be replaced. In late summer, the plants are already forming the flower buds for the next year. Do not plant strawberries twice in a row in the same bed. In any case, you should always choose a sunny place for strawberries. With the right choice of variety, you can enjoy fresh strawberries from the end of May to October. The once-bearing varieties such as the classic "Senga Sengana", the early variety "Elvira" or the late "Tenira" deliver lush harvests in June and July. There are also so-called everbearing or monthly strawberries such as "Evita", "Mara des Bois" or "Cornelia Pötschke". They deliver fruit for many months. The fruits of the everbearing varieties are smaller than those of the oncebearing strawberries, but very aromatic. Regular fertilization is important for a lasting harvest. How to properly plant strawberries.

1 Use the plants as soon as possible after purchase, Cut off any existing tendrils.

2 Planting sites with special berry fertilizer (for example by Neudorff) to enhance.

3 Take plants out of the pot and keep them at a distance of 30 cm to each other so deep plant, that the heart bud is above the earth.

4 Press the soil well all around and then pour it thoroughly with the shower.
