Completely redesign a garden? You can rarely do it all alone. This is where the help of professionals often pays off. We asked a garden architect about her experiences.
The decision was made three years ago. The house was renovated, but in the meantime the garden lay in the shade of tall trees, and the grass grew thinner and thinner. Now the system should be redesigned from the ground up. "At first we believed, we could do that alone", tells Alfred Grote. However, after hauling plants home from the nearby nursery weekend after weekend, he once had five of these, times from those -, it was too stupid for him. He had to see, that without a plan he has no structure in his 500 square meter garden would get. That's why he asked Heike Reinermann, the junior boss of the tree nursery and garden architect at the same time, to take a look at the "jungle" behind his house. "A typical situation", explains Ms. Reinermann. “Most garden owners initially buy relatively randomly, what they spontaneously like about shrubs and shrubs. As a rule, however, they have little idea of it, how the plants should later be distributed in the garden and how they work. Above all, the garden owners can hardly assess, how the planting develops throughout the year. Most people are disappointed and dissatisfied with the effect, even though they spent a lot of money.”
Suddenly the many paths made sense
That's what the first meeting with the Grotes was about, find out, how you want your garden to be. “I get to know the garden owners in intensive preliminary talks, experience, how they use their garden, if they spend a lot of time in it, Enjoy gardening or would rather have a low-maintenance plant. The style of the system also depends very much on the personality of my clients, and that's why I'm trying, to get to know her as best as possible”, says the garden architect. A little later, Heike Reinermann brought three very different designs, in which the wishes of the Grotes were taken into account. When the landlord z. B. saw the paths around a roundabout, he was skeptical. “I don’t want to go for a walk in the garden after all”, that's his comment. On the other hand, he wanted an alternative to the plain lawn in the middle of the property and his wife wanted as much space as possible for flowers. And suddenly the paths as demarcation made sense. "I see that very often too, just, when small gardens are to be designed: The owners have little experience with gardens, to be able to really imagine alternatives. And only then are new ideas convincing, when they are explained", says Heike Reinermann. In the design that was finally implemented, the Grotes were impressed by the rondel with a seat and a bubble stone in the middle of the lawn. "We wouldn't have thought of that ourselves", explain now. And for that alone, working with the garden architect was worth it.
