Fireplace room outdoors

This is a great way to enjoy the long summer evenings – in the cozy corner at the fireplace grill in the garden.

Sitting outside for as long as possible on mild summer evenings, cozy, Sheltered from the wind and with a delicious steak on the grill - you can look forward to it all year round. Happy, who doesn't have to unpack the mostly incomplete cheap grill on three legs with rusty accessories every time, but can simply make yourself comfortable in a complete and ready-to-use barbecue area.

In our case, this is the combination of a self-made barbecue and a seating area made of a privacy screen, bench and pergola. The highlight: It doesn't even cost all of that together at the hardware store 400 euros and with good care easily survives several summers. An investment, which definitely pays off. Also – rust free!

Fireplace as a kit

You can get kits for barbecue fireplaces in any hardware store. The construction and the material are the same in almost all cases, as a rule, all you have to do is place prefabricated parts made of lightweight concrete on top of each other and glue them together. A strong helper is very helpful when setting up the chimneys, above all, because you have to align the unwieldy parts with millimeter precision. If you want to combine your barbecue fireplace with a small seating area, as in our example, it is recommended, not to build the opening of the firebox in the direction of the seats. The radiated heat and possible flying sparks can make it quite uncomfortable even at a distance.

HOW TO BUILD THE CHIMNEY.

1 For the foundation, dig in 10 to 15 cm deep hole, fill it with laying sand. Compact it by tamping and lay two 50×50 cm large sidewalk slabs horizontally.

2 Place the wooden room part in the middle of the panels and also align it horizontally. Fastening is not necessary.

3 Just lay the ledge plate dry and align it in the middle.

4 Place the firebox part with its side walls exactly above the side walls of the wooden room part. Align the grooved side panels like this,…

5 …that you can easily slide in the grill grate.

6 The next part, the hood, is glued to the combustion chamber part. Be sure to use a fireclay mortar for this.

7 The attachment is also glued. Newspaper in the firebox prevents traces of mortar.

8 Last is the cover, which you also mortar. Allow the chimney to harden for about a day.

Schönheitskur

If you don't like the concrete gray of the fireplace, a white roller plaster is the method of choice. It covers the rough concrete structure and gives the whole thing a more elegant look. Important is the rich pre-treatment with a deep primer, which regulates the suction behavior of the stones. Then you need to apply a white primer, so that the plaster covers better.

Then follows the fine roller plaster.
