The patience of the wolves with their cubs is only initially limitless. They soon flee from the constant hustle and bustle onto fallen tree trunks, big stones or in the bushes, where the puppies cannot follow them. The mother also shortens her visits more and more. She stands still while suckling, because the puppies are so big now, that they can drink while sitting. They stretch their heads up under the mother's belly and sometimes fall backwards, if they can't find a hold with their front paws or if the mother suddenly jumps away. But now they need less and less milk and all the more meat.
That's why it's good, that many other animals gave birth to their young in the spring. The unwary among the elk, Reindeer or fawns are easy prey for wolves. But if their mothers are careful, flee in time or fight back with all your might, the wolves have to try their hunting luck elsewhere. Sometimes it takes a long time like that, until they return to the cave with big bellies. Most of the time, the elders announce their return by howling. With their voices still squeaky and excited, the puppies howl back and run towards you. Behold a wolf, fall upon him, jump at him and try to lick the corners of his mouth for so long, until he vomits the contents of his stomach in front of them.
The pups pounce on the steaming food and devour it. Now nobody has more time, compete with the other puppies for the best pieces. Rather, it applies, to choke down or drag away as much food as possible in as little time as possible. Later, in a safe hiding place, they choke it out again and eat it all up again, this time in peace. They bite through bones or tendons with their molars and tear off pieces of food with the help of their front teeth. And the, who don't have enough, charge the next old wolf, who also comes home with a full stomach.
The burrow is hardly ever used by the now eight-week-old puppies. They only slip back in when it rains heavily, otherwise they stay outside too. That's why it applies now, find a safe hiding place for the puppies, and somewhere near water, because the alpha wolf's milk is barely enough, to quench the thirst of the puppies.
When the old wolves have decided on a suitable place a few hundred meters from the old cave, lure the puppies and move. The puppies will spend the next few months in their new homes. They will trample the grass around, tear down all the moss from the trees and stones and leave their mark everywhere. Later you will be able to see exactly, that here was the nursery of the pack. It's usually one deep in the forest, Hidden spot on the bank of a river or near a lake, which is protected from view on all sides by dense bushes.
THE BITE RESTRICTION
The puppies have to learn from a very young age, to be careful with their powers. A few days after opening the eyes, the first pointed milk teeth break through. In connection with the ever stronger masticatory muscles, they could become murderous tools, if nature hadn't put a stop to it: the bite inhibition. She prevented, that in most fights between puppies and later the adult pack members, biting is really hard. Every animal has to learn during its childhood, that biting hard hurts – and careful biting less; it hurts less, the victim reacts less angry. That's why it's so important, that puppy, wolves like dogs, can play a lot.
