Although the concept of wellness plays a major role in Germany, especially in leisure culture, one cannot say, that the more medically oriented term from America would not have found its way into Germany. There are now various concepts under the name “Medical Wellness”., which aim to do much more than just reduce everyday stress (which you can certainly experience during a completely normal holiday even without the buzzword “wellness”.).
The special character of the holistic approach in Germany can also look back on a number of people and practices beyond the research of Halbert Dunn and the other founders of American wellness, who, especially in Germany and the German-speaking area, have the relationship between body and soul as an object of interest.
The most important characteristic of this type of wellness is probably the holistic approach, which in many respects is strongly linked to various ideas from healing practice, i.e. the field of medicine, which is mostly represented by naturopaths (which, due to this concept, stand in a certain contrast to the classical conventional medical ideas).
Medical wellness in Germany is closely linked to the various therapies of non-medical practitioners and practical psychotherapists, which, due to the increasing acceptance of psychosomatic illnesses, are also gaining ground within medicine.
