Living ideas for a small budget – Office cupboard with part-time job

Where to put the apartment keys, Small change for fare or scarf and gloves? All the odds and ends are often lying around and would be better kept neatly sorted in a drawer. The basis for our practical hallway furniture, that are quick and easy to build, is a metal office cabinet.

A real classic is the "Bisley" sheet steel cabinet, it since 1930 gives. The model is still very trendy today. Only for the office, the closet is actually much too good. Because with its drawers of different heights (from five to a maximum of twenty) the slender cuboid is so versatile, that he also for order in kitchen, bathroom and hallway.

We have designed two practical constructions, which can be perfectly combined with the sheet metal cabinet and create additional shelves in the hallway. With wood from the hardware store and without large workshop equipment (drill driver, hammer and brush) you can rebuild the two versions easily and for little money. The 67,3 x 27,9 x 42,9 cm large drawer cabinet costs 99 Euro, the materials for the angle as a writing space approx 30 Euro, for the bank around 50 Euro. Due to the triple plate thickness of 39 mm the shelves not only get stability, but appear light and elegant thanks to the shadow gap. The effect is underlined by the pastel shades of pale yellow and soft green. And if the cupboard in natural metal looks too office-like for you, it is available in eight other colors – from chic aluminum silver to royal blue to bright red. Written labels on the handles ensure perfect order!

1 A stop template for the stepped joints is made from MDF board 13 mm thickness manufactured.

2 The template ensures that the individual components of the furniture fit precisely. The panels are glued and fixed with pins. Be sure to, that the shadow gap is on the right side.

3 Around the eccentric connectors (0 15 mm from Hettich) holes must be installed according to the assembly instructions (Drilling template on the packaging) to be drilled. You will need an 8mm wood drill bit and a 15mm Forstner bit for this.

4 The components are put together and the eccentric connector is tightened with the screwdriver.

5 The bench bracket is attached to the side wall of the metal cabinet (Seat height minus triple plate thickness – here 39 mm). With a metal drill, 0 2,5 mm and a leftover piece of MDF when screwing the strip on the inside of the cabinet (13 mm) counter hold and screw together.

6 Paint all parts with acrylic primer and sand thoroughly, preferably with 120 grit.

7 In order to be able to sand the shadow gap, attach a sheet of sandpaper to a wooden board with double-sided tape (11 mm dick) glued. This means that all internal edges can be sanded without any problems.

8 Finally, the paint color of your choice (Acryllack) Instruct.
