You feel like it, To give your walls a completely different look? Then fabric-covered wooden frames are a great alternative to conventional coverings. We show, how you can easily make them yourself.
The colorful fabric rectangles in different sizes and colors adorn the living room wall like a large painting. You too can sign up for little money (3 m long frame strips cost around 6 euros at the hardware store, There is nettle cloth 2 Euro/m) make your own picture, because this work requires creativity.
How the frames are built, we have described step by step on the next page. However, there are two options for the covering. Either, They take white nettle cloth, which you delete afterwards. Or – if you want to do without brushes and paint – They use cotton fabrics of different shades.
The advantage of this wall design: If you ever got the wrong tone, the frames can be exchanged for new motifs at any time.
As you can see from the work steps, the reconstruction of the frame is easy:
1 For the 30 x 40 cm large frame first the strips (2 x 3 cm) Cut to size and pre-drill twice with a countersink drill at the four ends of the strip, slightly offset, then screw with wood screws.
2 Größere Rahmen, such as 40 x 60 cm, should be reinforced with hard fiber triangles. Glue first, then nail.
3 Um den Nessselstoff auf dem Rahmen leicht verspannen zu können und damit der Stoff nach dem Anstreichen nicht auf dem Rahmen kleben bleibt, a narrow quarter bar strip is glued to the frame all the way around the outer edge. Fix with clamps.
4 Der Nesselstoff (for example "Bomull" from Ikea for 2 Euro/m) is wrapped around the frame. Fold the corners neatly and staple from the back.
5 Die Leinwand mit einer einfachen weißen Wandfarbe vorstreichen.
6 Auf der weiß vorgestrichenen Fläche werden gelbe und rote Farbtöne besser wiedergegeben. Here, too, one wall color is sufficient.
7 Zum Aufhängen der einzelnen Rahmen eine Schablonenleiste mit den Markierungen herstellen. First mark the horizontal mounting points for the picture nails with the spirit level, then the vertical ones.
Extra tip: wallpaper instead of paint
If you don't want to paint the covering, you can also cover them with wallpaper and create small pictures with motifs of your choice. Paste paste on the piece of wallpaper (for example Tesa) Apply with a brush and smooth over the frame and the covering with a soft cloth. When the wallpaper creases – patience, they will warp of their own accord once the paste has dried.
