Even just imagining it horrifies you: Scrape wallpaper from plasterboard! We say, how it works – and like no way!
Build drywall walls – so with plasterboard- or gypsum fiber boards -, is now part of the extended do-it-yourself repertoire of every homeowner. The great advantage of both types of plates is it, that you very quickly have an ideal substrate for the subsequent wall covering such as tiles, colour, Plaster or wallpaper can create. It looks a little different, if you want to change the pad later. This is especially true for the combination of wallpaper and plasterboard. The problem: To be able to remove the wallpaper well, you have to literally tear open the surface and loosen the wallpaper paste behind it with vigorous watering. This is exactly what does not work with the moisture-sensitive cardboard and plaster components. Our tip is therefore, Roughen the surface with 80-grit sandpaper instead of using a tiger claw and dose the water with a spray bottle instead of watering it. After a short exposure time (a minute) all types of wallpaper can be used, though not in one piece, pull it off really well and quickly. Any errors- or damage to the cardboard surface can be touched up with plaster of Paris before the next wallpapering.
Everything looks much better with the gypsum fiber boards. It is possible to use a tiger claw to perforate the wallpaper here, but rarely necessary. You can easily remove all types of wallpaper from primed and unprimed gypsum fiber boards.
PLASTERBOARD- VS. gypsum phasing sheet
In principle, according to our experience and tests, you can get any type of wallpaper off gypsum fiber boards better than on gypsum plasterboards. It has to do with that, that the gypsum fiber boards are already provided with a primer, the penetration depth of the paste is thus limited. In addition, the surface structure of the fibre-reinforced gypsum is somewhat denser and harder than cardboard, the wallpaper can therefore be separated more easily from the substrate. However, gypsum fiber boards have the disadvantage when installing, that the joints must be filled very carefully and evenly, because they must not be sanded after drying. That's why it's easier, to glue the joints.
PRIMER -REALLY NECESSARY?
Basically applies before any wallpapering: A good primer on the wall can save you a lot of time and trouble when you change the wallpaper later. Gypsum plasterboard must be primed, it helps with gypsum fiber boards, but is not absolutely necessary. Since you have to treat the plasterboard with a deep primer anyway, to adjust the different absorbency of cardboard and joint compound, you can also put it on a wallpaper- or resort to a change of scenery (Picture above). The bottom line is right there.
