Regal Mobile – Double the effort

You can never have too many books – not enough space anymore: Because in this wall of books with its two movable shelves, for example 2300 accommodate volumes.

The search for storage space in the living room has come to an end! Because this wall shelf, which is movable in the front plane, is not only suitable for bookworms: On the shelves with a total length of 45 m (seven shelving bays x eight shelves x 80 cm length) don't just think of them 2300 accommodate books, but also your model making- or CD collection. Or all together, because the space is really big enough.

The wall shelf is made of glued maple wood, that you can only find in specialist wood shops, So not in the hardware store, to get. But of course this shelf can also be made from the well-known pine wood panels, which you can buy in any hardware store.

Perhaps this project is too powerful for you? no problem, we thought of that too: On page 11 find a suggestion, how to achieve a similar effect with Ikea's "Billy" shelves. For this we got the "Billys" in the front row moving, by giving them a few roles.

Shelves by the rolling meter

For this shelf you need strips of glued wood. Either you buy boards from 20 cm (shelf depth) or whole slabs of 80 cm width (common industry standard), which then have to be sawn into strips. The material shown here is laminated maple wood, which you can also get from wood retailers in lengths of just under 250 get cm. You can then use the entire room height for your storage space. To ensure sufficient stability, especially with the moving objects, to reach, every second floor is provided with a wooden dowel connection. The other floors are stored on floor supports and are, when a row of holes has been drilled for the small shelf supports, adjustable in height.

With the second building proposal, you don't need to build shelves first. To do this, buy five "Billy" shelves, eight wheels plus two axles and U-shaped and L-shaped aluminum profiles. In addition, a few board strips made of chipboard or MDF and a square piece of wood for the guide rails. Be sure to pay attention, that the rear shelves get a plinth, so they and the front, which are raised by the rollers, have a height.
