A simple kit carport (in the manner of the Brügmann model "Zolder" shown here) is nothing more than a roof on six posts. It does serve its own purpose, to protect the car from the weather, but that's about it.
That wasn't enough for us, and that's why we took the kit as a nucleus and extended it in the form of a pergola. This extension is created, by not attaching a panel to the roof of the "main building" along its length, but lengthen five of the total of eight ridge turrets and thus move the panel outwards accordingly. The roof overhang created in this way rests on two further posts, which frame a square trellis element.
Since the kit carport with (the ones included in the scope of delivery) corrugated profile roofing panels made of plastic, we got the same material in the hardware store and provided our canopy with it. In addition, we wanted to install a privacy screen and give the carport the character of a garage. That's why we closed the spaces between the posts on one long side with woven fence elements. We placed another square of wattle fence in front of one narrow side, also bordered by two posts. At the top we screwed it to the outer tab. If you want to set up a parking space for bicycles and garden tools, you can do without the trellis fence on the extension and use it instead – on all three sides – each provided with a braided fence element. A multi-purpose carport according to your wishes.
BUILDING OFFICE AND NEIGHBORS: AVOID DISPUTES AND LAWSUITS
■ Carports are generally subject to approval. However, general statements about the legal provisions cannot be made, because there are large regional differences (keyword: local statute). Therefore we strongly advise you, Check with the building authority for local conditions. pleas e ask your question, which documents you may need to submit.
■ Remember this too, that you do not provoke a row with your neighbors: A carport on the property line may mean an impairment, for example, when he changes the light conditions. Also: It is best to announce your intention and get the consent of those affected – in writing if possible.
How to turn the annexe into a shed
You can expand the porch to create a versatile shed: The three outward-facing sides are each closed with a square wicker fence element. As a continuation of the carport roof, the corrugated profile roof panels also cover the porch. They are made of plastic, which the sun's rays cannot harm. However, it must always be freely ventilated.
Cultivation begins: We have the roof turrets on 1,05 m extended and simple nail plates used to connect both parts. The aperture should not be missing here either, so that a closed appearance results. The dimensions of the boards: 12 x 2 cm. The pergola with the five extended riders, the additional post and saddle beam is clearly visible from this perspective. The two-part design of the aperture is shown to advantage in this photo. The corners are pre-drilled and butt screwed together. We closed the open side and the back with wicker fences from the hardware store, so no insight is possible. There are special screw-in brackets available in hardware stores for attaching the wattle fence, they are referred to as braided fence fittings.
