The garden types

Almost live in Germany 3/4 of the population in cities, and the big cities will continue to grow. The different forms of development in the city – multi-storey residential buildings, terraced houses, detached houses – allow different garden uses. The main form of housing will continue to be multi-storey housing in the future. Public green spaces improve the quality of living, however, many tenants still want a garden. It will be fulfilled for all of them, who are assigned a plot in a fine allotment garden.

The most intensive use of land occurs in allotments. The closer they are to the user's home, the more they are in demand. gardens in 1,5 to 2 km distance or with a driving time of up to 30 Gardens that can be reached in minutes enable regular care and thus also ensure good yields. The size of the gardens is so dimensioned (250 to 400 m2), that – as in 1. Chapter has set out — the essential vegetable needs of a family, Fruit and flowers can be covered. Of course, the intensity of use also depends on the time, which is raised for the garden, and the soil conditions.

Allotment gardens allow for a very individual investment. In addition to growing fruit, vegetables, seasoning- and ornamental plants, it is also possible to keep small animals.

The gardens are usually equipped with an arbor or bungalow, should not be permanent residences.

The gardens at the home can be visited without wasting time, once the home is built. Long journeys to work are often accepted, to enable the children in particular to grow up in a natural environment. Homes are built in small and medium-sized towns as well as in villages and on the outskirts of larger cities, where multi-storey housing cannot be provided. Approximately 10 Percent of all new construction is owner-occupied. This high proportion commands, to deal sparingly with the building land; the plot size is therefore maximum for new developments 500 m2.

In earlier settlements of private homes, two types of garden were created, depending on the location in rural areas or near the city in the case of individual houses: Settlement gardens and house gardens. Today there are, apart from the area size, no significant differences in the type of use.
