the earths, used for the cultivation and pot culture of ornamental plants, are mixtures of organic and mineral substances. While the "Humuserde" (knows z. B. Mist- and manure bed soil, Laub- and coniferous earth) consist mainly of organic matter, indicate the "mineral earths" (with. B. Composted soil) a larger proportion of mineral substances. By appropriate mixtures of the different types of soil, we can take into account the special requirements of the individual plant species. By adding sand, Loam or peat can also influence the structure of the earth mixtures in the desired way.
Compost soil is the key ingredient in most potting soil mixes. The starting material are (healthy!) plant parts, crop residues, Ermoste, Haus- and kitchen waste, garbage, rubbish, faeces, small animal manure etc. Already those of compositus lat. = compound derived designation indicates this, that this type of earth consists of the most varied substances. With the addition of 2 kg/m³ of carbonate of lime, a medium-heavy level is formed after the waste has been turned over several times, neutral and nutrient-rich mineral soil.
Lauberde is also often used for pot cultures. It consists of more or less decomposed leaves of deciduous trees. The best leaf soil comes from beech leaves; Pure oak leaves, on the other hand, are unsuitable because of their high tannic acid content. Most of the soil type consists of foliage mixtures, obtained from forests or green spaces. The autumn leaves must be stored loosely and in the shade, weakly moistened (best with liquid manure) and implemented about twice a year. A small amount of sand improves aeration and promotes decomposition of the feedstock. The after 2 to 4 years usable. Lauberde is a light one, lumpy humus soil with a weakly acidic reaction and low nutrient content.
