CORDLESS DRILL SCREW 14,4 VE-2 Digital Screwdriver

The new cordless drill drivers from Bosch are equipped with a computer chip and a multifunction display. We tested the 14.4 volt model and we tell you, for which users the new technology brings noticeable progress.

With the new Bosch PSR VE-14.4 VE-2 cordless drill/driver, computer technology is now finding its way into the home workshop. A built-in computer chip is designed to make the machine easier to operate. On the small display on the back of the machine, the user can view information about choosing the right gear for drilling and the optimal torque setting for screwdriving.

The user selects the material with just two buttons (Metal, softwood or hardwood) and the screws- or drill diameter. The display immediately shows the right gear and the optimum torque level. However, the small Bosch computer is not set up for this, transfer these values straight to the machine. Unfortunately, the user has to do this himself. At least it's a help, to be able to call up the optimal setting values directly on the machine in every work situation – you practically have a built-in manual.

The display also informs the do-it-yourselfer, when the remaining capacity of the battery pack is less than ten percent and it's time, charge the battery. However, it is easy to overlook the discreet display in the top left of the display. The flashing red LED, on the other hand, cannot be overlooked, which warns of engine overheating. To protect the machine, shouldn't be put away immediately, it's better to let it idle for a few minutes, so that the built-in fan can slowly cool the motor down again.

With a total weight of just under 1,8 kg, the 14.4 volt screwdriver from Bosch is not a lightweight, easy to handle thanks to its well-balanced middle handle. The accelerator switch and the change of direction of rotation are easy to reach. Forward- and backward arrows denote the switch position for the direction of rotation. Bosch has increased the torque setting. The new machine has 25 stages plus a drilling stage. However, the setting mark on the top of the case is barely visible. The gear switch is slightly recessed in the housing and, like the previous devices, it is a bit stiff. Thanks to the thick knob, however, it is still easy to use.

A motor brake stops the screwdriver abruptly after switching off. This should facilitate exact screwing. The auto-lock system is really helpful (automatic spindle lock). Together with the single sleeve drill chuck, it allows the drill- and bit changing with just one hand.

Anyone looking for a universal screwdriver, with which thick screws should be screwed in and drilled, gets with the PSR 14,4 VE-2 a truly universal machine. Its two-speed gearbox offers in first gear 0 to 400 U/ Min. enough power even for larger screw diameters. In second gear with up to 1250 U/ Min. the machine is suitable for quickly driving in small screws and for drilling. Bosch specifies the maximum drill diameter 28 mm for wood and 10 mm for metal.

The standard battery with 1,5 A capacity has enough endurance even for more extensive work. And with the included charger, it's in tight 60 fully charged in minutes.

Even if, as a seasoned do-it-yourselfer, you might be able to do without the "built-in operating instructions"., you don't have to be sad, because the new Bosch cordless drill does not cost more than the previous model, despite the additional multifunction display.
