A movement in the ideological sense is usually characterized by this, that she wants to bring about a change in a certain area of her life. In a movement, different people come together, who are similar in attitude and opinion and who have made it their goal, to make their common ideas better known and to people, who are principally interested in these teachings, to spread.
If you start from such an ideological definition of the "movement"., one cannot speak of a wellness movement in the true sense of the word.
Wellness in Germany is much less characterized by a common and shared background of ideas than by a need, which modern man increasingly shares in spite of all social and individual differences: the need for rest, Balance and physical and mental well-being. Not all people, linked in one way or another to the idea of wellness, bring an ideological motivation with them - the use of a popular buzzword is often far more common than the connection through a common idea.
Nevertheless, there are of course similarities, which agree with many providers and representatives of the young area "Wellness"..
The basis of the wellness movement in Germany is less a medically motivated change in body awareness or medicine (as can be attributed to the American inventors of wellness), but rather the recognition of the need, which is essential to the appeal of wellness to so many people.
That's not to say, that the representatives of wellness are only motivated by market economy - many of them actually represent an idea and have the goal, to help people permanently to a changed consciousness.
Which almost sounds like a sect here, indeed often rests on a partly spiritual background. So it's not that easy, to make a comprehensive statement about “German wellness”.. We want to try here, to make the providers and representatives of this idea understandable through different characteristics, but also elaborate, why wellness is such an important and attractive idea for many people today.
