All vegetable seeds are pressed, so that the seeds come into good contact with the soil particles and the soil moisture.
But you don't knock or roll the entire bed, but only presses the seed rows e.g. firmly with the back of the wooden rake. Pressing or rolling the entire bed area would promote evaporation and lead to soil crusting during precipitation. For vegetables, that need a longer time to germinate (Carrots, Onions), the use of marker seed is recommended. Radies are best for this, one of which one before covering the ranks all 8 up to 10cm lays out a grain. The radii, which rise relatively quickly, indicate the rows, so that the carrots or onions can be chopped before they emerge and oxygen can be supplied to the soil and the soil's water balance can be favorably influenced.
A faster rise can be achieved by briefly soaking (8 to 12 hours) in temperate water. Then it must be sown immediately and the seed rows must be moistened, thus the one initiated by the swelling
