Up to 75 liters of dirty water is pumped out by a washing machine per flush. With suitable fittings there is no mishap.
The easiest way, used water from the dishwasher- or to eliminate washing machine, is also the most dangerous: hanging the elbow over the edge of the sink or tub. The hose slips off too easily, or the drain is covered by objects. Then, inevitably, there is a flood, the consequences of which are then not covered by insurance.
Check the seal carefully
If you have worked on the fittings of the odor trap, you have to check everything for leaks after assembly. To do this, wipe all pipes completely dry and allow a large amount of water to drain off. Then feel all screw connections with your hand and look for traces of water on your fingers.
Fixed hose connections
When installing washing machines and dishwashers, special attention must be paid to the connection of the drain hose. Incorrectly connected devices can easily cause flooding. True, the pressure of the pumped-out water is not high, nevertheless, all screw connections must be tightened properly. However, the union nuts on plastic drain fittings are only tightened hand-tight, d.h. without using pliers. Put a rag around the screw connection beforehand, you don't slip your hand so easily.
Since the seals on these screw connections are relatively soft, the low tightening pressure is sufficient for sealing.
Do these seals not lie flat?, they can roll up or shift when tightening the screw connection, and the connection is leaking. The flat rubber gaskets and the conical plastic sealing rings on compression fittings must be perfectly clean. Even small dirt particles or a grain of sand between the seal and the mating seat will later allow water to pass through drop by drop. Who wants to be absolutely sure, coat the seals with soft installation putty beforehand (Neo-Fermit).
