Linoleum has been around for around 130 Years. Today, however, the material is hardly used. However, with increasing health awareness, floor coverings made from natural products are becoming fashionable again.
Linoleum is a floor covering, which is made for today, for a time, in the natural materials – after the triumph of plastics – can be brought back into all areas of daily life. Linoleum consists mainly of parts, that grow back: out of (oxidized)
linseed oil, Latin: "linseed oil", and natural resins, made of cork- and wood flour, chalk and colored pigments. The raw materials are heated, kneaded and rolled onto two meter wide jute fabric. Already smoothed, the webs, which are up to four millimeters thick, are hung out to dry. The linoleum floor matured in this way has many good properties: He is durable, can even be sanded and renovated, is elastic, durable, resistant to germs, cigarette burns, Oils and fats, antistatic and suitable for castors.
Linoleum comes in many modern colors, pastel as well as marbled, mostly bright and friendly. The dark colors brown and green are hardly offered anymore. Maintenance is also easier: Waxing, which was once so important, is no longer necessary, a wiping care product in the cleaning water is sufficient.
For the living area, a material thickness of 2,5 mm usually off. Laying linoleum yourself is not a problem. exception: Laying it yourself in wet rooms is not possible. The necessary welding of the membranes must be carried out by a specialist.

That's how it's laid correctly
The underground, firmly glued to the linoleum, must be extremely level, fest, staub- and fat-free as well as permanently dry. screed becomes, if required, primed, smoothed and sanded, Floor laying panels, with. B. on old wooden floorboards, are primed if necessary, the edges sanded and the joints filled with wood paste. Absorbent substrates are primed with one part of the adhesive to nine parts of water. Apply with a flat brush.
Linoleum becomes vertical, so standing as a role, stored and must 24 Hours in the laying room protected from light to acclimate.
The webs first in length (room length plus 10 cm) cut. The cutting technique: Scratch the material with the trapezoid blade and cut in the opposite direction with the hooked blade. The blade is guided slightly at an angle for the counter cut, so that the material is separate and at the same time about the backing layer 0,5 mm compression space is gained (undercut). The first panel is cut at right angles in the feed area, trimmed the two web edges with the edge cutter.
Then lay the first track firmly, the second at about 1,5 cm offset and slide underneath in parallel. The trimmed edge is now used as a guide for the trapezoid knife. Important: Also smooth the other edge with the edge cutter.
If the wall protrudes, corresponding cuts are made in the linoleum sheet. Special forms e.g. B. Curves are transferred using a cardboard template.
A tip: To transfer the course of a crooked wall or niche to the track, bevel or marking gauge can be used. Either a universal natural resin or a special cork is used as an adhesive- and linoleum glue. The lanes are laid in two steps. Lay the first lane firmly in the starting corner and fold back halfway. The glue with a toothed spatula (B2/3) apply and let dry. Lay the panel in and press firmly several times from the middle with a float and seam roller, to avoid air pockets. After the setting time, bring the free side to the correct length. The second half of the track Returning, Make glue bed, insert track.
A tip: Wider joints are filled with a paste. To do this, use a file to create linoleum dust and mix into a dough with universal paint. Finally, the linoleum floor is sealed with liquid wax.
