Underfloor heating in the bathroom is the pinnacle of comfort, their installation was previously a job for professionals. Two new systems make retrofitting possible for the do-it-yourselfer.
She works like her big sister, but is only 8 mm thick and therefore also suitable for renovations and Seibermacher. The "Jolly-Aquaheat" is a heating mat on a roll, warm water is conducted through the plastic pipes. The trick: This water is tapped from a normal radiator, The floor heat can be regulated separately via an interposed temperature limiter. However, tapping into the heating system only works up to a room size of 20 sqm. Installing the heating mat is no problem for Seibermacher, it is better to leave the connection to the heating to the specialist.
1 Connection and installation of Vor- and return as well as the distributor fingers take place on the existing hot water heating system.
2 Schließen Sie die ausgerollte Heizmatte an die Verteilerfinger an.
3 Bevor Sie die Heizmatten auf dem Estrich fixieren, you should
Fill system with water, vent and check for leaks.
4 Die ausgerollten Heizmatten fixieren Sie mit flexiblem Fliesenkleber. After it has set, apply a flexible flow spatula, of the heating loops at least 8 mm covered. Important: A surrounding edge insulation strip compensates for temperature-related expansion- and shrinking movements of the heated screed. You must not cover the distributor fingers with the liquid spatula.
5 Nach dem Aushärten des Fließspachtels verfliesen Sie den Boden. Always start from the intersection of the room axes and work towards the walls.
6 Nach dem Verfliesen und dem Abbinden verfugen Sie die Fliesenfläche. Use the rubber squeegee to pull the compound diagonally across the surface.
The choice of material
The success of retrofitting underfloor heating depends less on the quality of the heating mat, rather than the materials used. Because a warm-cold alternation, as is usual with these heaters, always causes movement in the ground, the flow filler used must, Glue, Tile adhesive and grout must be flexible. Otherwise you may tear the surface.
Den Thermoboden (see box at right) must not be installed on gypsum-bound substrates such as dry screed, because the higher temperatures of an electric heater compared to hot water heaters destroy the gypsum structure. The screed must be cement-based.
Speaking of screed: Because both the water- as well as the electrical lines are very sensitive, the floor must not vibrate. You must therefore have at least one on old floorboards 4 cm thick, apply flexible floating screed.
