A scaffolding on the wrong track – Table with tubular frame

This table is for life, because its substructure consists of scaffolding parts: For the 4 cm thick steel pipes (cut to size about 12 Euro / running meter), four threesomes- (B), six two-way pipe connectors (C) and four stamps (Category) you have to with a price of about 200 Calculate euros. For optical reasons, we decided on non-systemic castors for the four swivel castors with brakes (about 100 Euro). Because these rollers do not fit the pipe diameter, we built an adapter for this.

New ones are well suited as a tabletop, even better old floorboards. The way to a dealer in historical building materials is also worthwhile. Alternatively, there are pine planks in the timber trade (20 cm wide, 5 cm thick). Or you can have a laminated wood panel (80 cm wide, 2,8 cm thick) Cut to size in the hardware store.

1 The surface of the galvanized pipes is not completely clean, when they come out of the factory and need to be cleaned, for example with Stahlfix. Process any heavier soiling with fine steel wool, this gives the pipes a slight sheen.

2 Zinc surfaces have the property, to gray with time. To prevent that, cover the surface with zapon varnish. It is available as a ready-to-use liquid or spray.

3 The pipes cut to length are made with threes- and two-way connectors plugged together to form the table frame (drawing). The stamps on the tubes serve as a support for the table top. All connectors are fixed with adjusting screws (Allen key).

If you opt for a non-system role for visual reasons, you may need a roller adapter. It works like this:

1 The roller adapter is made from a round rod that fits exactly into the table leg. A gauge made of two wooden plates glued at right angles with a 45-degree angle plate helps, to set the center point: The point of intersection of two lines is the drilling point.

2 Use the wood drill to drill out the round rod in the middle to match the tenon of the roll.

The pipes are available with galvanized surface or in black pig iron (per meter approx 3 Euros cheaper than galvanized
