With this additional device, every electric drill becomes a precision tool. Bad drilling is a thing of the past.
To drill holes in a workpiece exactly perpendicular to the material surface, normally a drill stand is used. However, that assumes, that the workpiece is small enough, to find space under the stand, and that the distance between the center of the hole and the edge of the workpiece is not greater than the distance from the stand column to the drill. Otherwise you would have to drill freehand. Or you can use the drill mobile. This is a useful accessory for any electric drill with a standardized Euro neck (0 43 mm) and an addition to the stationary drill stand. The drilling mobile consists of the base plate, two guide rods with return springs and the mounting bracket for the drill neck. A plastic insert with notches is placed in the base plate for drilling in short round material. A handle and a depth stop complete the simple device.
Versatile use
The drilling mobile is always used on site. The workpiece does not come to the tool, but the tool is brought to the place of use. With its help, e.g. B. into already assembled furniture, but can also be drilled into walls or ceilings. Even with flat ones, Transportable workpieces require drilling work, that are beyond the limited reach of the stationary drill stand. Through the large base plate, which is placed flat on the material surface, the drill always goes into the material at right angles.
For central drilling in edges, the guide rods are pushed down through the base plate. The protruding ends are then pressed diagonally against the two outer sides of the workpiece, and the drill hits the middle of the edge of the material. With auxiliary blocks attached on both sides, it is also possible to drill into thin material. In this way, for example, dowel holes can be drilled in edges. This is important for large dimensioned dowels, for whose diameter there are no drilling aids. The further you push through the guide rods, the smaller the stroke of the drill. The feathers, which repeatedly push the base plate back into the starting position, and the depth adjuster can be easily removed, to increase the stroke.
In the case of rods that are pushed through, the Mobile Drill can also be used to drill at an angle in surfaces. The angle can be determined by rods protruding more or less far. Forstner bits are suitable tools for inclined drilling, which have circumferential spurs. This type of drilling is not entirely without risk because the drill can easily deviate and should only be carried out at low speed.
Concealed hinges can also be embedded in cupboard doors with the mobile drill attached. Because you work with an exact fit close to the edge of the material, the base plate of the mobile drill should be fixed to the workpiece with clamps.
Precautions
When using the mobile drill on sensitive surfaces, precautions must be taken to prevent scratches from occurring. You can stick self-adhesive felt or soft masking tape to the underside of the base plate.
Round workpieces such as pipes or logs deviate to the side when the drill hits them. Drilling such holes is not a problem with the mobile drill. A plastic plate with a prism set in the base plate, holds the material exactly in the middle under the drill.
Protect sensitive surfaces
Painted or scratch-sensitive jaws should be protected before setting up the mobile drill, otherwise traces of metal will be deposited. The underside of the plate is covered with felt for the installation of a door viewer, as shown in the photo.
