Dark purple, Zartrosa, White, copper, Cream or moss green: A heather garden always shows color and hardly needs any maintenance. Just a piece of landscape around the house, that can be a heather garden. Overgrown and as if by itself, nevertheless planned that way, that any of the innumerable types of heather are in bloom at any time.
Such a garden exudes calm, and it also allows the garden owner a lot of time for leisure. Because who has a heather garden, hardly have to invest any work, to take care of him. Heath plants are extremely frugal, they do not have to be watered except in long periods of little rain, and manure does them almost more harm, than it is useful. A portion of garden compost in spring is enough for the whole year. Only in terms of soil and location do heather plants make special demands: The soil must be lime-free and boggy or sandy, the location full sun. Under such conditions, the garden will be densely overgrown after just a few years, Pulling weeds, Chopping and digging are a thing of the past. Only an annual pruning after flowering is necessary. What the sheep do in the heathland, is done in the garden with the hedge trimmer or with the on 7 cm cutting height placed lawnmower. A heather garden is all the more beautiful, the more natural it looks. Irregularly shaped, Areas planted with one type of plant each adjoin one another, in between there are very isolated trees or bushes.
At the time of planting you still need a little imagination and a good garden plan. Because those with approx. 25 Plants placed cm apart do not look great. So that they become luscious quickly, one digs the ground before planting (Fall or spring) spade deep, cleans him of wild herbs and rakes one 2,5 cm thick layer of bark mulch. During the first few months the soil becomes constantly moist and (until it is completely overgrown) also kept weed-free.
