At a glance: Angle grinder

Angle grinders are used for cutting metals and stones, as well as for rough grinding- and cleaning work used. In addition to the small devices with 115 mm and 125 mm grinding wheel diameter, which we present in this overview, there are angle grinders too 150 mm, 180 mm and 230 mm large grinding wheels. These have more power when grinding and offer a much greater cutting depth, but are too unwieldy for most jobs. The small angle grinders are suitable, to clean grinding seams and to separate metal profiles. Equipped with diamond discs, also cut tiles and thin stone slabs. Devices with electronic speed control can even be used for polishing and grinding sensitive surfaces. Pure performance counts when cutting and roughing. While the inexpensive devices mostly with 600 to 800 watts have to make do, have some pro machines up to 1500 Watt nominal power consumption. Tool-free clamping systems such as SDS-Click and the Fixtee clamping nut or the Quick system from Metabo make it easier to change the grinding wheel. A spindle lock is now standard on all devices and is therefore not listed separately. Be sure to, that the protective hood can also be turned easily without tools into the optimal position for every job. This ensures more safety when working.

SHOPPING TIP

■ Angle grinder with 125 mm grinding wheel diameters have a greater cutting depth than the 115 devices.

■ A high engine power enables faster work progress and reduces the risk of overloading the machine.

■ Electronic control with adjustable speed is only required for polishing and processing sensitive surfaces.

■ Tool-free clamping systems for changing discs and adjusting the protective hood offer more comfort and safety.

■ A vibration-damped additional handle can be used

the hand transmitted vibrations, caused by disc imbalance, significantly reduce.

■ A safety clutch protects people and machines during cutting work, when the cutting disc is blocked.
